Tekirdağ, a city in Turkey is located on the northern coast of the Sea of Marmara and 135 km west of Istanbul. Mediterranean or humid subtropical climate and geographical location of Tekirdağ play an important role in progress of its agricultural sector that drives city’s economy.
Due to rich lands and humid climate, various agricultural products such as sunflower, wheat, barley, and onion are produced in Tekirdağ. Plateaus and lands covered with lush green grass trigger livestock while shores of Tekirdağ are rich with fishes enhancing fishery sector.
Though the economy of Tekirdağ is highly driven by agriculture, some agricultural zones are opened for industrialization, due to increasing prosperity in the textile industry. Industrialization in Tekirdağ has become an integral part of city’s growth since it highly contributes in the local as well as national economical progress.
Industrial development of such zones has taken a great step ahead due to city’s proximity to Istanbul.
